Choosing the right Klammeraffe ready-made reading glasses has never been that easy!

Our following two tools - "Age related table*" & "Diopter Chart*" will help you find out which lens strength is best for you and your eyes.

What are ready-made reading glasses?

Ready-made reading glasses (also known as "over the counter reading glasses" or "readers") are a pair of non-prescription pre-made glasses with simple magnifying lenses. They are designed to help people with presbyopia - a natural, age-related change in the eyes that makes it harder to focus in close-up objects, usually noticeable after the age of 40.

Key Characteristics:

  • Standardized Lenses: Both lenses have the same magnification power, ranging from +1.00 to +3.00 diopters in 0.50 increments
  • Fixed Pupillary Distance (PD): The distance between the centers of the lenses are fixed.
  • Limited Customization: Ready-made reading glasses do not account for individual differences in: Prescription strength per eye, Astigmatism, Exact pupillary distance and eye alignment
What are "Diopter"?

"Diopter" measures lens strength.

Ready-made reading glasses typically range from +1.00 to +3.50 - the higher the number, the stronger the magnification.

Choose by "Age":

An age-related table* can be used to find out which lens strength might be suitable for you.

  • Age 40-44 —> Recommended power: +0.50 to +1.00 diopter
  • Age 45-49 —> Recommended power: +1.00 to +1.50 diopter
  • Age 50-54 —> Recommended power: +1.50 to +2.00 diopter
  • Age 55-59 —> Recommended power: +2.00 to +2.50 diopter
  • Age 60+ —> Recommended power: +2.50 to +3.00 diopter

Diopter Chart*:

What is a "Diopter Chart"?

A diopter chart* is a simple eye test that helps you find the right reading glass strength. You hold it at a comfortable reading distance and check which line you can read most clearly — for example, if the +1.50 line is sharpest, that's likely your ideal strength.

STEP 1:

Open the diopter chart* by clicking on the link below. Important: To perform the test correctly, it should be carried out on a laptop, PC, or tablet. Otherwise, it may lead to incorrect results.

STEP 2:

Position your device or sit approximately 35-40cm away from the screen. It should correspond to your usual reading distance.

STEP 3:

Each line on the chart corresponds to a different diopter. Therefore, start reading (without reading glasses) from the top and move downward. The lowest line on the chart you are able to read comfortably and clearly indicates your recommended diopters.

*Important note:

This guide is designed for ready-made reading glasses and general use. However, this should only be used as a basic guide to determine which diopters of ready-made reading glasses you require. Therefore. it is not a substitute for a professional eye exam. If you have different strengths in each eye, astigmatism, or other vision issues, please consult an optician or eye doctor.
